DSE enters Floatel sector
A Dubai-based marine services company is building a floating hotel that will provide accommodation for people working in the offshore energy industry. Mubarak Marine will invest $19 million to build the floating structure that will be house 320 people.
“It will be a purpose-built barge serving oil and gas companies that need accommodation for their staff close to offshore production platforms,” said company chairman Juma Al Mubarak.
The vessel, named ?Millennium Two?, is being built by Dubai Shipbuilding and Engineering company (DSE) and will be ready in 14 months. Mubarak Marine runs a similar vessel with a capacity to house 190 people in the Gulf of Thailand. The vessel is currently used by ChevronTexaco staff.
“Offshore production platforms do not have enough room to provide accommodation to all the required staff. By using this vessel energy companies can save time and money spent ferrying workers between the offshore production site and the mainland,” Mubarak said.
