With the push of a button a $40 million vessel building programme was launched at the Dubai Drydocks recently. As the plate-cutting machine started up, the first steel plate was cut for the first unit in a four-ship series of 6,200DWT double hulled bunker tankers. These are being built for Dubai and Kuwait Shipping/Dubai Shipping Company, a transport arm of D&K Holdings.

Each vessel will cost $10 million and the first will be delivered early next year. The other three will be delivered at two-month intervals.
