Duplex DPS for ROV
The Marine and Offshore Division of Alstom Drives & Controls (previously known at Cegelec Projects) has won a contract to supply its duplex dynamic positioning system to a remote operated vehicle (ROV) support vessel.
To be built at Yantai Raffles yard, China for US owner Tidewater Marine Inc, the 74.5m loa vessel Nautical Tide will be fitted with Alstom?s DPS902 unit because of its dual redundancy, and the flexibility of the channels available for position measurement device input which the unit provides, says Alstom.
Such flexibility is important for a ROV/survey type vessel as its position measurement equipment is often changed from contract to contract, the company adds. Fitting the DPS902 will ensure that the vessel meets the ABS DPS2 notation.
Additional functions such as Arpa targets, position reporting via e-mail, extreme weather warnings, weather routing, tidal heights and streams, and ocean currents have already been integrated.
