ECDIS for enhanced situational awareness
Sperry Marine has launched a new-generation electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS), designed to enhance situational awareness for bridge watch officers. Sperry says its new NAVI-ECDIS system includes an intuitive user interface and uncluttered screen format. It runs on software that incorporates pop-up windows that can be moved around the screen to maximise viewing area of the chart display. Other features include smart, active labels and on-screen help menus. The PC-based system is available as a desktop or free-standing console with a high-resolution flat-screen display. It can also be supplied as an electronics kit for installation in a user-provided console. The system’s open architecture is designed for easy interfacing with other ship systems and permits future upgrades. The new NAVI-ECDIS meets all applicable IMO and International Electrotechnical Commission ECDIS specifications under SOLAS regulations.
