Eco Marine Power in research partnership

The Onomichi Marine-Tech Test Center (MTTC) will be developed by Eco Marine Power (EMP) and Teramoto Iron Works Co, and will be located at the Teramoto Iron Works Chojahara Workshop.

The centre will include a large outdoor evaluation area that will allow for innovative devices such as EMP’s EnergySail and other renewable energy solutions to be tested. Other marine technologies to be tested at the site will include the TM-600 Jack Up System, developed by Teramoto Iron Works and said to be the first device of this type to be manufactured in Japan.

A number of other companies will also be involved in the Onomichi MTTC, including The Furukawa Battery Company and KEI System.

EMP said that it plans to build and test a complete Aquarius Marine Renewable Energy (MRE) system – comprising rigid sails, solar panels and energy storage – at the site, with production due to start this year.
