Elliott Bay design for freight-passenger ferry

The new ferry, Woods Hole, is a single-ended vessel that will measure around 235ft, have a total passenger capacity of 384 and a car deck that accommodates 55 standard vehicles or 10 tractor-trailer vehicles.

“Conrad Shipyard is proud to have been selected along with EBDG to deliver this vessel,” said Terry Frickey, chief operating officer, Conrad Shipyard. “Both companies are steeped in a rich tradition of quality and integrity. We are excited to deliver another ferry in partnership with Elliott Bay Design Group that is critical to the transportation needs of the residents of the area.”

The ferry will include a bow thruster and have a service speed of 14.5 knots and will provide service between the Massachusetts mainland, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard.

“The Steamship Authority is delighted to be moving ahead with the award of this contract to Conrad Shipyard,” added Wayne Lamson, general manager, SSA. “We feel that Elliott Bay Design Group’s design will provide us with a very useful addition to our fleet and will help us to improve our vital ferry service for the islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.”

Construction of the vessel is expected to be completed by spring 2016.
