Emissions symposium at Europort

The symposium titles Results Study Fuel Efficiency and Lower Emissions for Turkish SSS coaster is the result of a study performed by Imtech Marine for the Turkish Ministry of Transport. The study looked at alternative propulsion systems and environmentally friendly ship design, with a focus on the feasibility for a hybrid electrical propelled coaster using LNG fuel.

Ship design in Turkey is generally based on traditional propulsion systems, using heavy fuel oil or marine diesel, but the goal is to optimise fuel efficiency and reduce emissions like SO2, NOx and PM.

Imtech says this hybrid design will lead to lower operational costs for the operator including predicted fuel costs and reduced emission levels. The new ship design has been presented for consideration in the Turkish Coaster Fleet Renewal Plans.

The mini-symposium, organised by Elkon, part of Imtech Marine Group, will take place on 13 March from 10 am to 12.30 pm. Entrance to the symposium is free for all visitors at Europort Istanbul 2015.
