Engine room simulator upgrade for Norwegian maritime school

The Kongsberg engine room simulator at Bodin Maritime School is receiving an upgrade

The existing will be extended to include an additional full mission engine room simulator featuring Kongsberg’s Big View software based touch-screen mimic panel showing a 3D visual engine room. The system includes a control room with hardware consoles and an interchangeable main switchboard. This, says Kongsberg, will allow the school to easily change different ship and engine types, for example from a diesel electric cruise ship model to a MAN B&W MC90-V-powered VLCC.

Another part of the upgrade involves integrating the engine room simulator with the school’s existing Kongsberg-supplied ship’s bridge simulator. According to the company, the enhancements will allow Bodin Maritime School to offer eight engine simulator models to support a range of different courses. One of these will be a container ship with Wärtsilä RT-flex engine, developed for training in ‘green ship’ operation.
