ER completes boxship quartet

Two container ships for E.R. Schiffahrt were named at the Hyundai shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea. Both are Panamax vessels, each with a container capacity of 2,556 teu. They continue the newbuilding programme of the shipping operator belonging to the Hamburg-based Nordcapital Group. The delivery of these newbuildings “E.R. Cannes” and “E.R. Camargue” means that E.R. Schiffahrt now has 58 container ships with a total capacity of about 240,000 teu which will be increased by a further 20 boxships by early 2008 giving an extra container capacity of 112,000 teu.

The two newbuildings complete a series of four sister ships having a length of 210 metres, a beam of 30.2 metres, a draught of 11.5 metres and a deadweight capacity of 34,600 dwt. They are equipped with 600 reefer plugs and have their own loading gear. Both vessels will initially operate for five years for the French shipping line CMA CGM, under the charter names “CMA CGM La Boussole” (“E.R. Cannes”) and “CMA CGM L’Etoile” (“E.R. Camargue”).
