ESVAGT chooses Brunvoll propulsion package

The 93m long vessel, based on a HAV 833 SOV design by HAV Design, is scheduled to enter into a 10-year charter for Ørsted at their UK East Coast Hub upon delivery. The vessel will be equipped with methanol-electric propulsion system, including a battery pack that allows very low to zero-emissions operations.

The SOV will be 93 metres long, with a beam of 19.6 metres and a draught of 6.5 metres, and will have a maximum speed of 14 knots.

The system delivery comprises a complete propulsion and manoeuvring package, including azimuth propulsion thrusters, retractable azimuth thrusters, and a tunnel thruster. The system will also feature Brunvoll’s condition monitoring system (BruCon CMS).

The Norwegian maritime system supplier was also specified by HAV Design for the first SOV in the series, which was announced in 2022. At the time, Brunvoll’s Bernt Rune Riksfjord, VP Sales, identified the order as “a breakthrough for Brunvoll in the azimuth thruster propulsion market. ESVAGT and HAV Design are both important players in the renewable segment. We have a long relationship with both, and we are excited that they now also will use our propulsion thrusters”.

Brunvoll noted that the repeat order demonstrates its relevance as a supplier of azimuth thrusters, particularly in the market for renewable energy vessels with dynamic position capabilities. The company has idenfitied this niche as a strategic market where it wishes to become a preferred vendor.
