Evergreen to build more boxships
Evergreen Marine Corp. of Taiwan, which operates Asia?s largest container shipping line, plans to order at least 20 container ships in the next 10 years to replace existing vessels.
The boom in transporting manufactured goods from China and carrying raw materials to the country has fuelled demand for new ships and bids for the construction of the 7,000 TEU newbuildings are currently under negotiation. Prices for ships of this size have risen to $100 million apiece from $70 million three years ago.
