Everllence confirms ethanol operation on ME-LGIM engine
The ME-LGIM, first introduced in 2016, is now the best-selling methanol-burning engine, with more than 225 units ordered and over 50 in service. The latest trials extend its fuel flexibility to ethanol.
Ole Pyndt Hansen, SVP and head of two-stroke R&D, said: “Our data confirms our assumption that ME-LGIM engines can run on ethanol without issues. We now have the technical know-how from a running engine to take us to the next level.”
Bjarne Foldager, head of two-stroke business, called it “another first” for Everllence, adding: “We already have five dual-fuel technologies in service and ammonia close to release. Now we need legislation and market demand to support ethanol as a viable option.”
Michael Petersen, SVP and head of PrimeServ Denmark, highlighted retrofit potential: “We are significantly closer to offering ethanol retrofits, especially on S90 engines already equipped with ME-LGIM.”
Everllence said further progress depends on regulatory recognition, bunkering infrastructure, and commercial uptake.
