Ferguson lifeline

Ferguson shipyard in Port Glasgow may have another chance to win a fisheries vessel which is going out to tender. The Scottish Executive has announced that the Aberdeen-based Fisheries Research Services is commissioning a new vessel but, once again, the decision would rest with Environment Minister Ross Finnie.

The Scottish Executive has come under intense pressure to award the contract to Ferguson’s and save 300 jobs. However, if Ferguson does submit a bid for the SFPA newbuilding, it will face competition from a Polish yard.
