Ferry and cruise orders for Wärtsilä

Wärtsilä has announced that it is to supply machinery to two ro-ro passenger ferries and a cruise ferry.

The two ro-ro ferries are high-speed units for Norwegian company Color Line AS, building at Aker Yards? Rauma facility for delivery in December 2007 and April 2008. Each 33,500 gross ton vessel will operate across the Skagerrak between Norway and Denmark at a service speed of 27 knots.

Power will come from four nine-cylinder Wärtsilä 46 main engines totalling 38,400kW together with four six-cylinder Wärtsilä 32 auxiliary engines aggregating 12,000kW.

The cruise ferry is for Estonia?s Tallink and is on order at Aker?s Helsinki yard for summer 2008 delivery. It is the fourth new cruise ferry for this operator and will be powered by four 16-cylinder Wärtsilä 32 main engines, with a total output of 24,000kW, together with two Wärtsilä twin input/single output reduction gears, for a service speed of 24.5 knots.

Three six-cylinder Wärtsilä 32 auxilary engines, producing a combined 7,380kW, will also be installed in the 212m long ro-ro vessel.
