Fincantieri captures five more cruiseships

During the “Seatrade Cruise Shipping Convention”in Miami, Fincantieri announced it has reached agreements with Oceania Cruises and Silversea Cruises to build 5 ships (of which 2 options).

The agreement with Oceania, a US owner, involves the construction of two 65,000 gt luxury cruise ships, each worth approximately $500 million, for delivery in fall 2010 and summer 2011. The deal also includes an option for a third ship to be delivered in 2012.

Founded in 2002 by Frank Del Rio and Joe Watters, Oceania Cruises currently has a fleet of three, smaller ships of approximately 30,000 gt. The new 9-deck ships will be 251 metres long and 32 metres wide and will reach a cruising speed of 22 knots. They will be able to accommodate 1,280 passengers in 640 cabins and suites, most of which (93%) with a panorama sea view. In addition, 83% of passenger accommodation will have a spacious private balcony. The ships will be exquisitely appointed with the focus on passenger comfort and the overall design was developed by Yran & Storbratten Studio.

Silversea, a leading Italian operator in top luxury cruises, has signed an agreement with Fincantieri for a 36,000 gt cruise ship with a passenger capacity of 540 for delivery in early 2009; there is also an option for a sister ship. Silversea currently has a fleet of 4 ships: Silver Cloud, Silver Wind, Silver Shadow, and Silver Whisper.

With these orders, Fincantieri has added 2 new, important brands to its cruise customer portfolio.
