First C20 fitted to MAN B&W engine

Hyundai Heavy Industries Engine and Machinery Division (HHI EMD), with

co-operation from Kongsberg Maritime, has completed the ‘shop test’ of its first Man B&W ME engine with the first ever installed AutoChief C20. Sovcomflot, owners of the vessel the engine will be used on, selected the C20 propulsion control for this advanced

powerplant.

The ‘shop test’, or ‘bench running’ of the MAN B&W 6S70ME took place in October 2004 at the HHI EMD plant in Ulsan, Korea. Kongsberg Maritime engineers were on site to ensure the smooth running of the propulsion control system, which despite required software updates, performed faultlessly. The engine itself passed the test and will be installed onboard the HHI new-building No.1562 later this year.

The C20 is the latest sophisticated evolution in 35 years of Kongsberg Maritime propulsion control systems. The system is designed for low to medium speed diesel engines with fixed or controllable pitch propellers.
