First Hamburg Süd newbuilding christened at DMHI
The “Monte Azul”, the second unit of a second series of ten vessels of the successful “Monte” class container ships, was christened at the Daewoo-Mangalia Heavy Industries (DMHI) yard in Romania. It was the first ship christening for Hamburg Süd in Romania. The new vessel has a length between perpendiculars of 259 metres, a beam of 40 metres and a maximum draught of 13.2 metres. ?Monte Azul? can achieve a maximum speed of 23.3 knots and has a total engine output of 45,765kW. With a total deadweight tonnage of 71,476 tonnes, the vessel can carry up to 5,552TEU.
Following her delivery in late September, the “Monte Azul” is to be phased into Hamburg Süd’s New Good Hope Express (NGX) service between Asia, South Africa and South America East Coast.
