First MTU-powered UT order for Rolls-Royce

The four ships will be built at COSCO (Zhoushan) Shipyard in China for a Hong Kong-based owner. Delivery is scheduled for 2014, with options for four additional vessels. As well as the design, Rolls-Royce will deliver an integrated systems package including: propulsion system, power electrical system, bulk handling system, deck machinery, automation and control system, and DP system.

Each ship will have four MTU marine generator sets based on 12V 4000 M23S Ironmen high speed diesel engines. Each genset engine is rated at 1,380kW and will be mounted, with the alternators, on a common base frame. Rolls-Royce, along with Daimler, is now joint owner of MTU parent group Tognum.

At present COSCO group has four other UT-design vessels under construction at the COSCO Guangdong shipyard.
