First UEC68LSE sale

With its first 520mm bore LSE engine now in service (see The Motor Ship, November 2001), Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has now secured a first order for its 680mm bore LSE model. The UEC68LSE will be fitted on a 177,000 dwt bulker newbuilding. The capesize vessel is being built by Namura Shipbuilding for Fuyo Kaiun. Delivery is scheduled for January 2003. The company is also developing a 600mm bore LSE engine, in cooperation with its licensees Kobe Diesel and Akasaka Diesels.
