Fuel Efficient newbuild joins Evergreen Fleet
Ever Lucid was named at a ceremony by Mr S. S. Lin, first vice group chairman of Evergreen Group, and Mrs Woo Mun Tak, wife of Mr K. L. Chen, director of Evergreen Marine (Hong Kong). At 8,508teu and 224.8m length oa, the 105,000dwt Ever Lucid is currently the largest ship under the Taiwan flag.
The vessel can cruise at a speed up to 24.5 knots and is owned by Evergreen Marine Corp. Ever Lucid will join the company’s Far East – Europe route as from 15 January.
Mr. Lin said: “Among the ten L-type vessels that Evergreen ordered from CSBC, two are now plying the oceans in the service of our customers. In every aspect, the performance of these newbuildings fully meets our expectations.”
The new delivery is part of Evergreen’s fleet renewal programme, said to have been initiated in 2010, when shipbuilding costs reached cost-effective levels. The project entails 30 L-type vessels in all, which on delivery will replace existing chartered-in ships. In the meantime, Evergreen has signed charter agreements for five 8,800teu vessels already delivered in 2013 as well as ten 13,800teu to be delivered by the third quarter of this year.
