Full mission diesel electric simulator

RTM Star Center has announced the installation of a DE III full mission diesel electric simulator at its Dania Beach, Florida facility. The simulator, based on a design by Kongsberg Maritime Ship Systems, meets the STCW ?95 requirements for Class A full mission simulation, says RTM. The system is based on a large cruise ship requiring 40MW of power at 6,600v. There are four diesel generator sets each rated at 11MW connected to two 14MW synchronous propulsion motors. In addition there are four thrusters (two forward and two aft) and two 600KW emergency generators. The ship modelled is 77,000g, with a cruising speed of 18.5 knots. The simulator equipment is arranged in a three-room suite consisting of a control room, an engine room and a high voltage room. RTM says the training can be specific for equipment familiarisation or more general for plant management or engine room resource management. The simulator can create realistic scenarios requiring troubleshooting and casualty control, says RTM.
