Gas-fuelled ships pick up Nor-Shipping awards

'Stavangerfjord’ – energy efficiency award at Nor-Shipping

The Energy Efficiency Award (previously Clean Ship Award), goes to the ship that makes the greatest contribution towards energy efficiency in relation to its function or operation. The award went to Fjord Lines’ Stavangerfjord, the first international service passenger ferry to run on pure LNG engines, supplied by Rolls-Royce/Tognum company Bergen Diesel. The other nominees were Viking Grace, CMA CGM Marco Polo and Dina Star.

The Next Generation Ship Award recognizes the yard, designer or owner with the most promising design idea for a ship at sea in the coming decade. The winner in this category was the TOTE 3,100TEU container ship. Built in the USA by General Dynamics NASSCO, the first two vessels will be delivered and enter service in 2015 and 2016. They represent the first order for LNG-powered containerships, being equipped with MAN two-stroke dual-fuel engines.The other nominees were Norled ZeroCat, Edda Ferd and B.Delta.
