GE Power systems for Dalian Shipyard

The order comes as Dalian Shipyard is expanding its shipbuilding and repair facilities and preparing to build the next generation of LNG tankers and container vessels.

Dalian says it chose GE Power’s crane technology to enable it to build these larger vessels quicker while maintaining the safety requirements and the need to manage energy use.

Lutz Steinhaus, sales leader for material handling, GE Power Conversion, told The Motorship: “The quickly growing LNG business in China demands more vessels with larger capacity. Our working drive and control systems will help Dalian increase its safety and efficiency with high precision positioning of loads. The technology design with active rectifiers (AEM) will also enable energy optimised crane operation over busbar connected drive systems and energy recovery to the grid, resulting in reduced downtime and safer operations for the shipyard.”

GE has been working with Dalian for 12 years. “Working together with GE helps us continually push the boundaries of shipbuilding,” added Gao Guo Chun, project manager, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Equipment Manufacturing Co Ltd.
