Cascade General entered the new year with a wide range of work underway at the Portland Shipyard and at remote locations.

Three large ATC crude carriers have been docked under the maintenance and repair alliance signed by the two companies in December. SeaRiver North Slope and SeaRiver Benicia were in for routine drydock work, plus renewal of six bottom plates, and Overseas Chicago is in for a 50-day overhaul which includes plate replacement, tank coating and structural upgrades.

The 79.25m barge Kahoku, owned by Young Brothers and used in Hawaiian inter-island roro service, was towed to Portland for extensive repair and renovation, and 106.5m Army Corp of Engineers dredger Essayons was drydocked for annual maintenance and hull and machinery repairs.

The yard is also building a 124MW power barge for MAN B&W Diesel AG, and has started converting a 66.44m x 18.28m bare hull into a 161-passenger luxury cruise vessel for Delta Queen Steamship.

Remote work included a $10 million overhaul contract on a US Navy guided missile destroyer, and repairs to American Hawaii Cruise?s SS Independence which drydocked in Honolulu for 17 days in January.

“This broad range of work will keep the company running near capacity through the winter,” said Andy Rowe, executive vice president.
