Reefer giants

German yard HDW has won an order to build two panamax hatchcoverless reefer container ships for reefer operator Dole Fresh Fruit. The newbuilds will each have a refrigerated capacity of two million ft

, with slots for 990 FEU reefer boxes.

Main dimensions of the two vessels include a loa of 204.9m, a beam of 32.34, a depth of 20.8m, a maximum draught of 10m and a maximum deadweight of 30,600t. Propulsion for a service speed of 21 knots will be via a Sulzer 8TRA72U main engine rated at 23,920kW (32,065 bhp).

Once delivered in December of next year the newbuilds will enter operation between Central and South America and North America as part of Dole`s banana trades.
