Gibbs sets up in Aussie

US naval designer Gibbs & Cox will set up an Adelaide headquarters, helping to create more than 100 jobs.

The Virginia-based firm will set up corporate headquarters near Outer Harbor-based ASC, which, in May, secured the $6 billion contract to build three air warfare destroyers for the navy. Gibbs & Cox’s decision to forge an Adelaide base is the first direct corporate relocation as part of the destroyer contract almost all of the jobs would be at the new AWD Systems Centre. The company would also seek to build longer term business in the state and also outsource some work to Adelaide companies at peak times.
