GL encourages young marine engineers

GL says that its initiative aims to support and reward the best young engineers in the maritime field and demonstrate how varied and exciting the engineering profession can be. Torsten Schramm, COO of the GL Group, presented the prizes which range in value from €1,000 to €3,000 to the winners, who come from Norway, Italy and Germany.

The first prize was awarded to Eirik Bøckmann, from the University of Trondheim, for his research on wind turbine propulsion of ships. The second prize went to Valerio Capurso, Giovanni Colotto and Giorgio Guadagna, from the University of Genoa, who submitted a work entitled The ship energy efficiency in terms of optimum trim and speed reduction policy: a methodology and a tool for the decision making process“. Sven Faustmann from the Bremen University of Applied Sciences received the third prize award for his thesis on the optimisation of the waterproof subdivision of a megayacht concept design.
