Goltens faster grind

Goltens has launched a new range of crankshaft repair tools that it says can slash repair time by 50 per cent. The tools, which can be used for insitu crankshaft repairs on new generation low-speed engines, are the result of a three-year R&D programme. Three designers and one machinist have worked full time on development of the new tools for the past 18 months. The development costs have been distributed between the company’s 13 worldwide offices.

“There is increasing market demand for repair solutions to handle new crankshaft designs and adequately meet OEM tolerance requirements,” explains Roel Van Etten, managing director of Goltens, Rotterdam and vice-president, Goltens R&D.

Goltens says the new tools offer less redundancy, with only one tool needed for grinding, milling or turning; simpler repair management; less repair time; faster productivity; and worldwide repairs. The tools are designed to aid complete crankshaft repairs on the new Sulzer RTA, MAN B&W MC and MHI slow speed stroke engines.

“Combining its experience with state of the art tools, Goltens can offer a perfect repair within a time frame far better than in the past. Worldwide training of key personnel has already started,” says van Etten.
