Graig and GMI solve Chinese yard problems
The companies will deliver employment and management expertise to China – a vast market for maritime expertise – for vessels which have been built but which cannot be delivered to the owner.
Hugh Williams, CEO, Graig Group, said: “There are many shipyards in China which are facing problems delivering ships or who are effectively building for their own account because owners cannot meet their commitments. They need good commercial and technical management for the ships to get them into operation and an exit route for the future.”
Steve Rodley, managing partner, GMI, said: “Ships which have been built but which would otherwise end up as fire resales or stuck in the yard can be put into service by us and later sold on when the market improves.”
Around 22 of Graig’s current newbuilding supervision contracts are for Chinese owners, including the technical management of the 79,600 dwt bulk carrier, King Peace, on behalf of Shanghai based Zhong An Shipping – a contract acquired earlier this year. The company has built up its Chinese supervision to help other Westerners in the industry make the most of China.
