H&W kicks off new year with five-ship docking contract

The ferry fleet includes conventional vessel Stena Europe, a 149m long ship which can carry up to 480 cars and 1,386 passengers. This ro-pax ferry, which services the Rosslare to Fishgard route, underwent various work including hull blasting and paintwork, mechanical repairs, the installation of a new winch, new accommodation doors, and modifications to the drencher system and various other piping systems.

Stena Leader, Pioneer, Lynx III and Caledonia were also drydocked at Harland and Wolff’s 335m long Belfast dry dock during February and March in time for the new travel season.

David McVeigh of Harland and Wolff says repeat business from Stena Line is a boost to the company. “We never take for granted the fact that operators such as StenaLine have the option of a number of shipyards to whom they can turn for their annual dockings,” says McVeigh. “The work we have undertaken on behalf of StenaLine was completed on time, to budget and to a high level of competency. We are already working on a number of other ship repair related projects with other ship owners and operators.”

Harland and Wolff continues to diversify while maintaining these strong links with the shipping sector. “We have already been awarded another renewable energy project which is due to commence later this year,” McVeigh says.
