Hanjin to double boxship fleet

Hanjin Shipping will double its container fleet by 2010. To achieve the goal, Hanjin will place a new order for five 10,000TEU container ships next year for delivered in 2009. The timing of the order will depend on ship prices. When delivered, the newbuildings will be deployed on the transpacific route. The Korean shipping company envisages securing annual container transportation capacity of 10 million TEUs by 2010.

Hanjin recently ordered four 4,270TEU vessels from Samsung and will place four more similar ships. Park Jung Won, president of Hanjin Shipping said that Hanjin will operate the small and medium sized container ships on its Europe/North America, North America/South America and Middle East to Far East routes.
