Havyard windfarm vessel fit-out

The hull for newbuild number 118 was built in Turkey and is of Havyard 832 Service Operation Vessel (SOV) design. It will be operated by Siemens and used to service and maintain wind turbines.

Arve Helsem Leine, design manager, Havyard Design & Solutions, said: “The essential thing about this design is that the service technicians board the wind turbines via a heave-compensated walkway, which means it is important that the vessel’s movements are gentle and calm.”

The vessel has been specially adapted for its duties and has workshops and a big aft storeroom for parts and spare parts for the wind turbines.

It has room for 40 service technicians and a crew of 20. There are plenty of facilities on-board for the crew including a cinema, exercise room and games room.

The sister vessel to the 118, build number 119, will be launched at the yard in Turkey in September and will be towed to Leirvik the same month for further fitting out.

“We expect that this design will meet the shipowner’s and the operator’s wishes and requirements and we are confident that there will be demand for more vessels of this kind,” Mr Helsem Leine added.
