Helping shipowners decarbonise

The focus of the initiative is to provide a way for owners to measure, verify and improve performance – both for specific compliance with energy efficiency existing ship index (EEIX) and carbon intensity indicator (CII) requirements together with broader environmental and financial targets.

“We need to do more than just calculate the EEXI and CII requirements,” said Matthieu de Tugny, president marine & offshore, Bureau Veritas. “We need to find, verify and market the benefit of solutions to help shipowners meet their performance targets,” he added.

The partnership will develop a service to assess the operational and retrofit solutions available to reach decarbonisation targets, including EPL, propulsion optimisation, energy saving devices, new fuels, wind propulsion or other options.

Deltamarin will focus on calculations and engineering optimisation solutions. Bureau Veritas will provide verification and compliance services along with safety and risk management. BRS will focus on optimising the financial performance and cost control aspects of projects including carbon credit opportunities, as well as working with the shipyards that will carry out modification and retrofit work.

Janne Uotila, chief executive of Deltamarin, said that the future was about finding a transition pathway towards low and eventually zero carbon shipping whilst president of BRS, Francois Cadiou, added that the agreement would help clients make better informed decision and comply with IMO regulations.
