Hempel launches new antifouling solution

Designed to protect the hull throughout service intervals of up to 60 months, the coating incorporates a biocide package and binder system and is reinforced with Hempel’s patented microfibre technology.

Hempel’s group product manager, marine group product & portfolio, Davide Ippolito, said: “Even mindful of the operational and financial pressures on shipowners and operators, we are keen to continue to broaden our portfolio of hull coatings to ensure we are delivering a range of solutions to suit every customer.”

The paint incorporates an internal skeleton of fibres to enhance its mechanical strength in the same way that steel rods are inserted into concrete. This strengthening is said to improve coverage reducing the areas to blast and ultimately decreasing the costs when in dry dock.
