The G-type marine engine uses 7% less fuel than other engines with the same output

HHI says that the G (Green)-type marine engines, 7G80ME-C9.2 at 37,900 bhp and 6G80ME-C9.2 at 38,200 bhp, use 7% less fuel and produce 7% less emissions than other engines with the same output.

One of the G-type marine engines has been installed on a 319,000 tonne very large crude carrier (VLCC), owned by Greek company, Almi Tankers. The other is scheduled to be installed on a 5,000 teu containership owned by fellow Greek company, Thenmaris Ship Management.

HHI has estimated that the G-type engine will save the respective owners around US$2.9m and US$1.3m a year.

The type approval test was attended by supervisors from 11 classification societies including ABS, DNV, LR, and shipowners’ representatives.
