IMES has extended the functionality of its engine analyser in its new EPM-XP plus product.

IMES has unveiled EPM-XP plus, a highly developed and user-friendly engine analyser for 2- and 4-stroke diesel engines, which extends the functionality of the company’s successful electronic indicator EPM-XP.

While both devices appear alike, EPM-XP plus offers upgraded performance, extended functionality and new features.

EPM-XP plus is equipped with the same basic components as the electronic indicator, e.g. portable data acquisition unit including calibrated HTT® sensor as well as sophisticated data acquisition- and analysing software.

The main functions such as TDC correction, automatic Pcomp calculation, IPOWER and IMEP calculation as well as trending function are still available.

However EPM-XP plus offers new functions that enable a specific combustion analysis for an increased engine diagnosis. The engine analyser also has a higher battery capacity for more than 20 operating hours.

The addition of USB/Ethernet connection functionality also permits continuous online measurements on indicator cocks, subject to connecting the device via USB / Ethernet to a PC. The ethernet connection has a maximum range of 50m. The acquired data will be directly transferred to the visualisation software for monitoring. The visualisation software displays cylinder pressure sequences and the stored measurement data can be used for offline analysis to identify abnormal combustion behaviour.

The sophisticated visualisation- and analysing software enables an extensive evaluation of engine performance data and important combustion parameters can be directly transferred to the IMES expert software. The result is an optimised engine, lower fuel consumption, a reduction of cost for maintenance and repair and improved emission values due to NOX and CO2 reductions.

IMES is continuing to innovate to upgrade the functionality of the EPM-XP plus product. One option under development is the ability to connect a vibro sensor to the EPM-XP plus to monitor fuel injection timing and valve timing.
