HITT and LRF in jv for online shipping information service.

HITT, a provider of traffic management and navigation systems and Lloyd’s Register- Fairplay (LRF), a publisher and provider of maritime information solutions, announced the formation of a joint venture company ?AIS Live Limited?. This company will focus on developing online shipping information services for port communities and authorities. The initial services will provide users with on-line access to the details of vessels visiting their ports enabling them to plan effective port related activities. In addition to a range of subscription services, a free access element is to be provided.

The jv will develop the services already provided to a growing number of port communities from AISLIVE.COM, an existing website developed by HITT on which real-time information about vessel movements can be viewed. This information will be linked to the LRF maritime database, which contains comprehensive details on over 91,000 commercial ships, and over 50,000 owners, managers and operators. The jv will provide port communities and authorities with access to real-time information about vessels in or approaching their port or area. When linked with the details of ownership, management, technical specifications and items such as inspection history and previous port state control detentions, AISLIVE.COM provides a complete picture of port and vessel activity, greatly assisting planning and safe port operations. AISLIVE.COM has already attracted a significant number of registered users and the new company, which is based in the UK, plans to build upon the clear public demand for these services.

The AISLIVE.COM network currently provides real-time information from a number of locations with the most extensive network providing information on vessels transiting the English Channel and Dutch coast. The position of each vessel in the region is displayed on a chart and, by placing the cursor over a specific vessel, users have the ability to display additional details, which includes latitude, longitude, course, speed and next port. By selecting to view further information subscribers gain access to complete vessel and ownership details.
