Horizons maiden travelift launch

Horizon Shipbuilding, Inc. of Bayou La Batre, USA, made the first launch with its 660 tonne travelift. The Ugodie, the second in a series of two 52.30 metre fast crew supply vessels Horizon is building for Nigeria, was recently lowered into Bayou La Batre by the travelift. Immediately after the launch, the travelift was christened “Mr. Jimmy” in honour of James M. Goleman, Jr., Horizon?s longest serving employee with over 13 years of service. Some of Goleman?s many responsibilities have been oversight of the launching and “haul-out” of all of Horizon?s vessels since the company?s inception in 1997. “Mr. Jimmy” replaces an antiquated 200 ton marine rail-way. Horizon plans to utilize “Mr. Jimmy” for modular construction of large hulls, launching of new vessels, and for repair and maintenance services for Gulf Coast operators.
