Hock Seng Lee Bhd (HSL) will develop an RM50million ($14 million) shipbuilding industrial zone in the new township of Tanjung Manis in central Sarawak. The proposed zone of 142ha will cater for the construction, repair and maintenance of ships and other related downstream activities.

HSL signed a memorandum of understanding with Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corp (STIDC), which owns the land, for the proposed joint-venture project. STIDC said in a statement Tanjung Manis shipbuilding zone was expected to attract major shipbuilders in Sibu and from overseas. The shipyard repair and maintenance will cater for ocean going vessels up to 20,000 tonnes.
