Hurtigruten overhaul hat-trick for BREDO

BREDO MD Dirk Harms told The Motorship Hurtigruten’s 11,384gt ro-pax vessel Nordnorge would arrive on 2 February. She will stay 10 days for general work and overlap the docking of a second Hurtigruten ship, the 16,151gt Midnatsol, one of the biggest in the Hurtigruten fleet, which arrived mid-January and will remain at the yard until 8 February for similar work.

Mr Harms, who was appointed MD at the start of January to succeed Norbert Jurczyk who is retiring this year, said a third Hurtigruten vessel, the 11,204gt ro-pax Kong Harald was leaving the yard Friday (25 January). She has been at the yard for nearly three weeks.

Mr Jurczyk was quoted as telling German media the yard was “very proud to dock the Hurtigruten ships and to win the work over stiff competition from Scandinavian rivals”. He noted the Norwegian ships had to sail past some of those competitor yards to reach BREDO. “Once again we were able to convince a customer to accept a longer journey in return for reasonable costs, deadline reliability and a skilled local service network”, he reportedly said.

The yard says it entered the New Year with “a very satisfying order situation”. The comment follows a period which Mr Harms, in comments to The Motorship last year, described as “quite tough”. He says owners are saving because of the shipping crisis and that savings include yard work.

in the yard’s 170m long dock for machinery overhaul and steel repairs and the 100.6m naval tender

which was ending a period of routine maintenance and corrosion protection work.
