Hyundai Mipo delivers its first PCTCs

South Korea?s Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Ulsan has recently delivered its first pure car/truck carriers (hull nos. 8032 and 8033) to the Dutch shipping company Vroon BV. The 11,200 dwt newbuildings, named Magny Cours Express and Monza Express, are the first and second in a series of four vessels that will be delivered to Vroon during 2009 and 2010.

They have a length of 168 m, a breadth of 28 m, a depth of 30.6 m, a draught of 7.8 m and a service speed of 19.9 knots.

Steel cutting for Hyundai Mipo?s first PCTCs took place in October 2008 and the construction of the vessels was completed in about 10 months, the shipbuilder said.

Both vessels are PCTCs (Pure Car and Truck Carriers) with a capacity of 3,500 cars, and will be able to carry both standard cars and ‘high and heavy cargo’, thus offering the necessary flexibility to the charterers.

An official from the shipyard said, “We will get over this crisis and enhance our competitive edge through ship type diversification following product carrier and LPG carrier.”
