Hyundai-Vinashin names second newbuild

Hyundai-Vinashin Shipyard (HVS), a joint venture between South Korea?s Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (70%) and Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (30%) recently held a naming ceremony for a 56,000 DWT bulker in Vietnam.

The newbuilding is the second of the 14 Supramax bulker series ordered by Germany?s E.R. Schiffahrt in 2007. The vessel, named ?E.R. Bologna?, has a length of 187.8 m, a breadth of 32.2 m and a depth of 18.3 m. Newbuilding price of the ship is said to be $47m. The bulkers with a deadweight of 55,783 tonnes and a cargo hold volume of about 70,000 cubic metres have four deck cranes. Grain, iron ore, coal and hot coil are the likely cargoes. The newbuilding will sail under a long-term charter agreement with South Korean shipping company Hanjin.

HVS currently has an order backlog of some 20 ships. It has launched its third newbuilding on October 17th and its fourth newbuilding hull is now being constructed.

The shipyard, which has been offering its services since 1999, was particularly active in the field of repair as well as conversion before it started its newbuilding activities. It plans to start operating a 450-tonne class goliath crane at its No. 2 dry dock in December.
