IMO approves vector-raster chart combination

The IMO has decided to allow the use of both official raster and vector charts in ecdis navigation systems. This means that an ecdis will meet the IMO`s chart carriage requirement whether it is operating with an official vector ENC or an official RNC, but with certain conditions. Official raster data can now be used as a safe digital answer in the absence of ENCs. However it remains the case that when operating in raster mode, an ecdis must be used together with an appropriate folio of up-to-date paper charts. Contact: Ian Todd. Fax: +44 1823 284077
