Incat 85m Evolution
It is proposed to fit the 84.64m catamaran with two vertically mounted cylindrical wind turbines on the superstructure roof. These turbines are designed to capture the wind flow across the ship to convert wind energy into electrical power and augment the power required by the electrical services to further reduce the ships dependency on the diesel powered generators. Unlike solar panels the wind turbines remain operational at all times of the day or night and also alongside the wharf when the ship is stationary.
The 500 dwt wave piercing catamaran newbuilding will have a beam of 26.62m and a full displacement draught of 3.40m. In addition to carrying 600 passengers, the ro-pax ferry will have about 800 lane metres to accommodate 178 cars or 200 lane metres for trucks and 122 cars.
Propulsion power will be by means of four high speed diesels each driving a waterjet.
