Indian ship modernised in China

Shipping Corporation of India?s cargo vessel Vishvakarma has completed a tweendeck hatch cover conversion at Chengxi Shipyard (part of China State Shipbuilding Corporation). Deterioration in the condition of the operating system for all the tweendeck panels was such that operation eventually became possible only by wire and crane, the emergency mode. MacGregor?s repair specifications called for: removal of the cover operating equipment and all connecting rods and guiding systems; welding panels in the area of the stowing spaces to the ship; and welding four to six existing panels to a liftaway panel. MacGregor was subsequently commissioned to execute the job and supervise the conversion at the yard.
