Integrated system for surface and subsurface craft

The Seadevil (Seaborne Navigation System/Doppler Velocity Log) has been jointly developed by Kearfott Guidance & Navigation Corporation and RD Instruments. It is a navigation system designed for surface and subsurface craft, including remotely controlled underwater vehicles. It is enclosed in a 457 x 228mm cylinder weighing 27kg in air (16.8kg in water) in its 3,000m mounting. It has a power requirement of 35 Watts average at 32VDC. The unit incorporates Kearfott?s SEANAV inertial navigation system, RDI?s Workhorse navigator Doppler velocity log and an embedded GPS receiver. Seadevil provides an integrated system that offers improved performance over discrete devices as well as eliminating the mechanical alignment normally required during installation, say the developers. The system offers a choice of two inertial rate sensors (24cm or 16cm path length monolithic ring laser gyro), three DVLs (300, 600 or 1,200kHz), three pressure housings (1,000, 3,000 or 6,000m), the option of an external GPS receiver in place of the embedded receiver and RS422 input/output.
