Interchangeable antennas

The latest range of satellite phones from O`Gara Satellite Networks feature interchangeable antennas to allow them to be used at sea, on the road or as a portable unit, says the company. The range includes the portable Worldfone, the Worldfone Marine for use at sea and the Worldfone Voyager for vehicles. The 2.4kg portable Worldfone`s antenna doubles as a protective case.

The Worldfone Marine and Voyager use the boat`s or vehicle`s power, while the portable version uses an internal battery offering 50 hours standby and three hours talk time, says O`Gara.

The Worldfone uses the Inmarsat mini-M system and covers The Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean and parts of the Indian Ocean. Calls are pre-paid with a credit card and the phones work with personal subscriber identity module cards. This lets different people use a single phone, access their own electronic phone book and get an itemised bill, says O`Gara.
