Intermarine orders four more from ENVC

Intermarine of New Orleans has ordered four more 8000DWT heavylift cargo ships from the Portuguese shipyard Estaleiros Navais de Viana do Castello (ENVC) with the first delivery expected in the fourth quarter of 2006. They will feature dual 250 tonne capacity cranes that may be combined for 500 tonne lifts. With an overall length of 120 metres and beam of 20 metres, these newbuildings will be same size as the seven Century class vessels built by ENVC from 2000 to 2002 and presently employed in Intermarine services.

Roger Kavanagh, President of Intermarine, commented, “We have found this versatile, mid-sized project/heavylift cargo carrier to be ideal for the customized voyage construction that we specialize in. Over the past five years, this class ship has become the workhorse of our fleet and an often requested vessel type by our customers. These newbuildings will have a slightly greater heavylift capacity to better meet our cargo projections that call for an ever increasing trend in the weights of industrial plant components”
