Iran-India order LNG octet
The Joint Iran-India LNG consortium in its first step for LNG export is to place an order for 8 new carriers valued at $1.6billion. Four of the ships will have a capacity of carrying 145,000 cubic meters. Delivery is expected to be 2010 and the fleet would be carrying 7.5m tonnes of LNG to India annually. Furthermore, the Iranian side has agreed that the Iran-India Shipping Line, an Iranian-Indian joint venture, to represent Iran in the consortium but the Indian side has not yet introduced any company to this end.
Philly gets Aker name
Kvaerner Philadelphia Shipyard will now operate under the name Aker Philadelphia Shipyard, as the shipbuilding subsidiary of newly established Aker American Shipping.
Aker American Shipping will not just build ships but also own and lease Jones Act commercial vessels through an affiliated company.
