Island Offshore orders new unit from Aker
Aker Yards has signed a contract with Island Offshore for the building of a well intervention vessel. This will be a near sister ship to the ‘Island Wellserver’, delivered from Aker Yards earlier this year. Like its sister, it will be built to Rolls-Royce UT 767 CDL design, but with slightly increased length, larger engines and thrusters, and higher cargo capacity. The vessel will be built in Norway, and is intended for world-wide use, but primarily for operations in the North Sea. The value of the contract is about NOK 1.2 billion included equipment supplied by the owners. The ship is scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2011.
